Welcome to Iowa State University (ISU) Department of Computer Science. The Computer Science department resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the largest college at Iowa State University. Currently, the department has 1,600 undergraduate students (938 Computer Science students and 662 Software Engineering students), 240 graduate students, 41 full-time faculty members, and 13 staff members.

We have strong research and educational programs in:

Our department has over $16 million in active research grants. However, factoring in our interdisciplinary activities in biosciences, mathematical science, and engineering, our department’s impact is larger. Overall, we contribute to approximately $25 million in active research and training grants.

We offer strong B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and M.S. in Artificial Intelligence. We are one of the founding departments for the B.S. in Software Engineering, B.S. in Data Science, Data Science Minor, and Certificate, along with the B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology. We are active in interdepartmental graduate programs in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Human-Computer Interaction, and Cybersecurity.
