Study computer science

The Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University offers a variety of major and minor programs designed to prepare students for their future careers. Focusing on both technical and soft skills, a degree from our program will teach you to be innovative, think logically, and solve problems efficiently – valuable skills whether you go into research, academia, or working in the industry.

Our undergraduate program includes core computer science and mathematical fundamentals, making you well-prepared for more specialized courses in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering. You can earn a BS in Computer Science or a BA in Computer Science. We also offer minors in AI and Computer Science.

For students looking to advance their education, we offer a variety of options in our graduate program. We have the first MS in AI in Iowa, as well as a graduate minor in AI. You can also earn either an MS or a PhD in Computer Science.
