Computer Science department hosts K-12 Computational Thinking Competition
On April 14, 2018, the Department of Computer Science hosted nearly 30 students in K-12 for the 9th annual Computational Thinking Competition.
The competition, co-sponsored by Rockwell Collins, helps students engage in computational thinking, a critical thinking skill that involves breaking down a problem into manageable pieces and working toward a solution in an organized manner which a computer could carry out.

CTC Intro Workshop
Computational thinking is a critical thinking skill that, according to some, is a required skill for success in the 21st century! Many students are only trained to become users of a computer, rather than developers. We think everyone should know how to make the computer work for you!
2015 Computational Thinking Competition - April 2015
The ISU Computational Thinking Competition seeks to introduce K-12 students to problem solving with computational thinking in the context of their current coursework in Iowa schools. Student projects are in the form of computational models that help students to understand a problem, understand all of the requirements for a solution, be able to test their solution, and demonstrate the solution. Students will present their project to CTC judges, and compete for prizes including laptop computers, netbook computers, and i-Pods.
Computational Thinking Workshops for K-12
Students, teachers and parents interested in learning more about computational thinking, or preparing for the Computational Thinking Competition(CTC) can attend one of our CTC workshops, held on Saturday morning from 9-12, with an optional additional workshop on Scratch programming from 1-3pm. Lunch and snacks are provided.

Iowa K-12 Outreach
Computational thinking is a critical thinking skill that, according to some, is a required skill for success in the 21st century. This article from Jeanette Wing of Carnegie Mellon University describes what computational thinking encompasses. For most students, exposure to computational thinking as a problem solving tool comes late, or not at all.
