The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, has promoted Jin Tian to the rank of professor in the Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University.
Jin Tian received funding for an NSF project entitled, "EAGER: RI: Causal Decision-Making." The project duration is one year with the intended award amount of $75,000 to Iowa State University.
Gianfranco Ciardo, Yan-Bin Jia, Guang Song, and Jin Tian all faculty in the Department of Computer Science have been awarded a Faculty Professional Development Assignment (FPDA).
The project by Prof. Jin Tian seeks to develop a sound and general causal inference framework for decision-making of intelligent systems, including (1) learning a causal representation of the data-generating environment (learning), (2) performing efficient inference leveraging the learned model (planning/inference), and (3) using the inferred representation to decide how to act next (decision-making).
