As of January 2021, Computer Science will no longer be using reserve.cs.iastate.edu for room reservations. We have moved to Outlook calendars for room reservations. Here is documentation on how to use Outlook calendars for room reservations

How to add a Printer for OS X Users

This page documents how to add a network printer to an OS X machine. If you have a Microsoft Windows device, you'll want to check out this page.

Prior to setting up your printer you may want to install the vendor supplied drivers to make sure all features are available.
An example would be that using generic drivers may not allow you to print a color 11x17 (tableture) page.

How to Use FileZilla

In this tutorial, we will be using FileZilla to connect to pyrite. You can download FileZilla here. If you are using a computer that is not on the campus network, you must VPN to connect.

How to Access Your Files Through the Samba Server

Please use \\my.files.iastate.edu\Users\<net-id> as the folder path in the instructions below. (You will need to replace <net-id> with your net-id. This is the part of your address before the "@iastate.edu". For example: lexluthor@iastate.edu would use the path \\my.files.iastate.edu\Users\lexluthor.)

Windows: Map your Samba share as a network drive

1. Click Windows Start button then click Computer. This launches Windows Explorer.

How to X Forward

"X Forwarding" is the process of displaying graphics from one X Windows system on another. It can be compared to Microsoft's Remote Desktop or a VNC session.

In this tutorial, we will assume you want to setup X forwarding from the Computer Science "pyrite" server to your workstation.

Working on a CS Server Directly


For a quick access to your files, Linux users can connect to pyrite.cs.iastate.edu via ssh while Windows users should connect to rdp.cs.iastate.edu via Remote Desktop.
