swapp logoThe convergence of high-performance computing (HPC), big data, and AI, together with the ubiquity of parallelism, are shaping the future of applications and the new software development trend. Applications demand higher computational power due to the vast amounts of data and analytics enabled by ubiquitous parallelism. How could HPC applications benefit from the new software development trends? How could AI and ubiquitous parallelism empower the processing of large volumes of data leading to new types of applications?

The Laboratory for Software Analytics and Pervasive Parallelism, led by Ali Jannesari in the Department of Computer Science at Iowa State University, investigates and studies the problems and challenges primarily arising from answering these research questions. We primarily work at the intersection of HPC (parallel computing) and data science (AI). Our mission is to advance state of the art in building reliable and efficient software utilizing AI/analytical methods and parallel computing. Our results and research findings help software developers to utilize the modern heterogeneous parallel computing platforms to develop complex software of in-demand areas such as data science and high-performance computing (HPC).
