Abdurahman Ali Mohammed

Abdurahman Mohammed is a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Iowa State University, specializing in machine learning and computer vision. Mohammed's research is particularly focused on developing label-efficient machine learning algorithms and their application in biomedical image analysis. Beyond this, Mohammed harbors a deep fascination with the interpretability of machine learning algorithms and is dedicated to uncovering novel ways to make these intricate systems more understandable. He is part of the research group led by Professor Wallapak Tavanapong at Iowa State University.

In 2022, Mohammed was honored to be selected as one of only 300 students across North America for the prestigious Google Computer Science Research Mentorship program. Under the guidance of Dr. Boyu Wang, a researcher at Google, Mohammed acquired insights and expanded his expertise in the field.

At Iowa State University, Mohammed has also worked as a Teaching Assistant with courses like COM S 227: Object-Oriented Programming and COM S 207: Fundamentals of Computer Programming. As the Head TA for COM S 227, a large course with over 400 students, Mohammed has been able to share his expertise and inspire many students.

Mohammed embarked on his academic journey in Ethiopia, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering from Addis Ababa Science and Technology University in 2018.
