Dr. Chunsheng (Sam) Xin will start as the new Chair of the Department of Computer Science beginning August 1, 2025. Previously, he was a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the School of Cybersecurity at Old Dominion University (ODU). His research interests include cybersecurity, AI, and advanced wireless technologies. From August 2022 to July 2025, Dr. Xin served as a program director at the National Science Foundation (NSF), where he led efforts in cybersecurity education and several strategic initiatives, including serving as co-chair of the NSF Semiconductor Working Group. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), and a recipient of the IEEE Big Data Security Leadership Award.
