One of our undergraduate academic advisors for computer science students, Snow Gray, presented at the Iowa Academic Advising Network (IowaAAN) conference on September 18th. The conference allows for academic advisors from around the state to share their knowledge, research and experiences regarding higher education.
Snow’s presentation was “Communicating with Gen Z: How to Get Students to Read Your Emails.” During their presentation, Snow talked about some baseline philosophies on how advisors should interact with students. This is a significant challenge for advisors, as they want to communicate with students in an effective, meaningful, equitable, and accessible way. After establishing the baseline philosophy, she presented a framework for communicating with students – which can help other advisors be able to help information reach their students. Congratulations to Snow for this accomplishment!
