We are pleased to announce that Deb Holmes, Assistant Director Academic Advising, Liberal Arts & Sciences Student Academic Services, has been named a 2023 ISU Award for Academic Advising Impact recipient. The award recognizes Iowa State faculty or staff who have continued to demonstrate outstanding performance in advising Iowa State undergraduate students.
Holmes works hard to provide the best experience for her students and student employees. “Deb makes every student feel important!” said Paige Rolling, a junior Computer Science major who works with Deb in the advising office.
Deb is also beloved by her students, providing wonderful guidance as they make difficult and challenging decisions toward shaping their futures. “She’s really open and helpful while helping me make decisions about my academic career,” explained Ellie Chen, a junior Computer Science major. Jordan Harmon, a senior Computer Science major, added, “Deb was by far the one person here at ISU that I could come to talk to about any class problem or matter I was having. She would reassure me or give me an answer that would ease my mind and help me find a solution to any problem.”
Overall, Deb provides guidance and mentorship for the students she interacts with. “Deb has been one of the most impactful mentors in my college career!” said Hannah Ashley, a senior Computer Science student. “I would not be where I am today without her consistent support and advocacy. I’m so thankful for the woman she is and for the woman she has helped me become.”
Thank you, Deb for all the hard work you have done and all how you have made our students’ lives easier and better. Congratulations on the award!
