Matt Miller selected to present his research in the First Annual Iowa State University Undergraduate Research Symposium

Matthew Miller, an undergraduate student in Computer Science has been selected to present his research on Statistical Machine Learning on Distributed Data in the First Annual Iowa State University Undergraduate Research Symposium. Matt Miller has been engaged in research in the ISU Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory, under the supervision of Professor Vasant Honavar, in collaboration with Computer Science graduate students Cornelia Caragea, Jie Bao, and Neeraj Koul and Dr. Doina Caragea, a recent Ph.D. graduate  of the ISU AI Lab, and an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Kansas State University. The focus of this project is to develop algorithms and software for knowledge acquisition from distributed, semantically heterogeneous, autonomous information sources. Matthew's undergraduate research assistantship has been funded in part by a research experiences for undergraduates (REU) supplement to a grant from the National Science Foundation to Vasant Honavar and in part by the ISU Center for Computational Intelligence, Learning, and Discovery. The symposium is scheduled to be held on April 11, 2007 at the Memorial Union on the ISU Campus. The symposium will showcase research by undergraduates in a wide range of academic disciplines within the the university.  Presenters were selected based on a review of  their abstracts by ISU faculty and graduate students with expertise in the relevant areas. 

Matthew Miller is one of the top students in the Computer Science undergraduate program. He plans to pursue his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence or a closely related area in one of the top graduate programs.
