In this tutorial, we will be using FileZilla to connect to pyrite. You can download FileZilla here. If you are using a computer that is not on the campus network, you must VPN to connect.
1. Open FilZilla. You should see a screen like the one below.
2. Type pyrite.cs.iastate.edu in the Host field. Put your IASTATE username and password into the username and password fields. For Port put 22.
3. Click the Quickconnect button. If a dialog like the one below shows up, click on the checkbox next to Always trust this host and click OK.
4. You will now be connected. On the left hand side are your files and folders of the machine you are currently using. On the right hand side are the files on your pyrite server. In order to move something from your computer to pyrite, simply find it on the left hand side and drag and drop it into the right hand side. To move something from the server to you computer, find it in the right hand side and drag and drop it into the left hand side.
