Careers in Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is consistently highlighted as an important and rapidly growing field - but it can be difficult to understand how to get on the path to work in the industry in a cybersecurity role as a student. In this talk, Dan will talk about his experience, take your questions and explore a few careers within cybersecurity- including ethical hacking (or offensive security), incident response, security software engineering, and cloud security engineering and discuss what he’s thinking about and looking for when hiring new team members for cybersecurity jobs.

About Our Speaker

Dan Rediske (CS & PoliSci ’14)  has always had an interest in cybersecurity; Dan has worked various roles in his 10+  years in the software industry ranging from hands on software engineering, being the first member of a global cloud product based "blue team", PM-ing security features of software, wearing every security hat as the only security person at a startup, and now manages a team of engineers, applying AI to the security problem space, including CVE triage and cloud architecture problems. Outside of work, Dan can be found running long distances, exploring the mountains in the Pacific Northwest, and spending time with his wife and their corgi.
