Open Science in Bioinformatics: Data Management, Reproducible Methods, and the Open Science Movement

Open science is the movement making scientific research and its dissemination accessible to all levels of society, amateur or professional. Open science practices in the form of data sharing, the publication of null results, and replication studies largely benefit research communities and are a fundamental norm for the advancement of research. However, there is a huge disparity in data collection, preprocessing, and sharing methodologies between research institutions, resulting in countless repeated and redundant studies and inconsistent results.

The field of bioinformatic research specifically faces these drawbacks, and to tackle these drawbacks, the Center for Open Science and Flu lab has introduced a refined workflow system known as the Open Science Framework (OSF). The OSF is an open and free-to-use framework for the research community designed for bioinformatics that streamlines research and increases research efficiency.
