Abstract: Automated virtual assistants, aka chatbots, engage in automated conversations with customers of web applications to answer customers’ questions quickly, without requiring live human agents. Full stack software engineers can develop User Interface and server-side code that interacts with Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics software and the member's personal record to provide a more relevant experience for each customer chatting with the virtual assistant. This industry discussion will explore software technologies and techniques used by full stack software engineers to develop software applications that enable automated virtual assistants to hold relevant conversations that are personalized for each customer.

About the speaker: Janet leads the Sofia Chatbot team of full-stack software engineers in the Innovation Works organization at Businessolver, Inc. She has a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago. She has led software architecture and development teams across multiple industries. She is an inventor on eight U.S. patents. Her team develops software using multiple programming languages and technologies, including AWS CloudFormation, Docker, Java, ReactJS/JavaScript, JSON, HTML, CSS, SQL, and python.
