Abstract:
Individual differences have so far been underrepresented in user interface research. Considerable productivity gains would become available if a computer could automatically detect user cognitive characteristics. One characteristic, spatial visualization ability, has been linked with improved performance on a variety of computer tasks. In this dissertation, we suggest a novel, behavior-based spatial visualization detection technique adoptable on generic computer devices. The application of interest is a professional, location-based address verification task employed by the US Bureau of Census.
