Adventure into Computing Workshop Series

Challenges DSMWorkshop

Held in the Pearson Hall Computer Labs on campus, these free workshops offer children an opportunity to learn basic computing concepts and programming techniques, and to have fun with hands-on activities. Parents and teachers are encouraged to participate! Recently, we have been trying to hold these workshops in off-campus locations as well.

There are two main workshops being offered, one for beginners and the other for intermediate level students. The goal of both workshops is to impart computational thinking knowledge and skills at an age and preparedness appropriate level. We have been incorporating topics from the latest CSTA K-12 Computer Science standards into our workshop materials.

In addition to these main workshops, we also participate in workshops targeted to Science BoundOPPTAG, and WISE programs on ISU campus. We have also offer versions of our workshop at public libraries, schools, and other youth groups (like scouts) on request (allscience@iastate.edu).
