Who am I?
I'm from Vietnam. My full name is Minh Trong Tran, however, everybody calls me Minh (pronounced the same as the end of the word programming). I have been in the graduate program at the Department of Computer Science, Iowa State University since August 2000. I defended my M.Sc. thesis at Iowa State University in 2003. I obtained my B.Sc. in Computer Science from Hanoi University of Technology in 1997. From 1997 to 2000, I was a member of technical staff at NetNam Corporation, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Research
I'm interested in the following topics in computer networking: multimedia streaming and caching, content distribution, peer-to-peer networks, and wireless mobile networking. My advisor is Dr. Wallapak Tavanapong.
Here is a list of conferences, workshops, and journals related to networking and multimedia computing. I update the CFPs every 4-6 months.

A few words about my dissertation research:
You've probably heard about Content Distribution Networks (a.k.a, Content Delivery Networks or CDN in short) such as Akamai or Limelight Networks. They help to deliver content for big websites like CNN, Yahoo, YouTube, MySpace, Xbox Live, etc. You're also probably familiar with peer-to-peer networks like BitTorrent, Kazaa, etc. They empower the sharing of music/media content among individual users like you and me. My dissertation research is to devise a new kind of content distribution network which could be summarized by the following equation Akamai + BitTorrent = Minh's CDN.

Talks
I presented papers at the ACM Multimedia Computing and Networking (MMCN) 2003, IEEE Management Multimedia Networks & Services (MMNS) 2005, and IEEE Local Computer Networks (LCN) 2005 conferences.
