Mike Rothschild

A little about me: I am currently a second semester Junior in Computer Science from Rochester, MN. My favorite area of the computer field is security. I believe it is very important for confidential data to stay confidential. This ultimately drove me to write up a patent proposal while doing a co-op at IBM in 2006. It was accepted in March of 2007 and finally submitted to the United States Patent Office in June of 2007 after working with lawyers for a few months in Cincinnati.

Other than computers, I am very much a health and fitness enthusiast. I believe it is extremely important to stay healthy and fit. Too many people in this world are getting lazy. As part of this, I encorporate a lot of gymnastics into my workouts. Gymnastics is one of the best workouts for you and also by far one of the hardest sports known to man. It takes an immense amount of strength, coordination, and mind power to do the sport and I love the challenge. Within the last 8 months, I have developed my skills where I can now do tuck planche pushups (pushups with no legs on the ground), 30 degree straddle planche, back lever, L-sits, L-chin ups, dragon flags, and various ring skills (such as back lever, pike up to back lever, skin the cat to pike to back lever, L-sit, psuedo planche, etc). Weights are often lazy, bodyweight exercises will yield you the most strength and the best looking body if you know what you're doing.

The reason why bodyweight exercises are important is because we carry our bodies around with us wherever we go. We do not carry around symmetrically shaped weights with us usually, we carry our bodies. I cannot tell you how many people at gyms I've seen be able to lift whatever in iron weights, but cannot do 5 or 10 correct pullups or pushups to save their lives. What do you do more in life? Lay on a flat surface while lifting a thin iron object with weights on the end above your chest, or push or pull yourself up from something? I'll go with pushing and pulling yourself up.

A sport that is similar to some gymnastics is Parkour and Free Running. I am currently the president of the ISU Parkour and Free Running club. Parkour is a discipline in which you try to get around an environment (such as urban) using only your body. For example, the steps of Beardshear present a challenge to most people. In Parkour, we scale the 10 foot small wall on the side of these steps, then when up there, jump across up another 4 feet to the main wall and pull up and you're up at the top very fast. Parkour is the perfection and effiency of movement in an environment. Free Running is similar, but more aesthetically pleasing (i.e. backflips play into it). Both sports are usually grouped into the term "Parkour" and you must be in very good condition (both physically and mentally) to do anything worthwhile in it.

And otherwise from this, I have been playing guitar for 9 years, singing for most of my life (Amazing Grace), and enjoy doing all the fine things in life.

Anyway, below I have links to my club, my resume, and a music link just with lists of fun things dealing with music!
