Course Description
The course will cover contemporary topics in
optical networks and wireless networks. Topics in optical networks include
network architectures, routing and wavelength assignment algorithms, virtual
topology design, protection and restoration, traffic grooming, and optical
burst switching. Topics in wireless networks include routing and channel
assignment in wireless mesh networks.
A major component of the course is a research project to be conducted by students in groups of 2-3 students each. Written reports and oral presentations are required for the project. Another component of the course is reading assignments where you will read papers and write summaries.
