The IEEE Computer Society is seeking applicants for the position of
Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of IEEE TRANSACTIONS IN KNOWLEDGE AND DATA ENGINEERING
(TKDE) for the publication years 1997 and 1998. The EIC is a two-year
appointment by the President of the Computer Society.
Publications are
one of the most tangible services provided to its members by the Computer
Society. Therefore, EICs play a critical role to the success of the Computer
Society.
SCOPE OF IEEE TKDE
IEEE TKDE includes the knowledge and
data engineering aspects of computer science, artificial intelligence,
electrical engineering, computer engineering, and other appropriate fields. TKDE
provides an international and interdisciplinary forum to communicate results of
new developments in knowledge and data engineering and the feasibility studies
of these ideas in hardware and software.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
OF CANDIDATES
Key qualities of the EIC are the possession of a good
understanding of industry, academic, and government needs, plus the managerial
skills to process manuscripts through the editorial cycle in a timely fashion.
The EIC must be able to attract respected experts to his/ her editorial board.
Major responsibilities of future EIC of IEEE TKDE include:
a)
Active solicitation of high quality manuscripts from potential authors, and
assistance of these authors (with the help of the IEEE-CS staff) in getting
their manuscripts published;
b) Identification and appointment of
editorial board members with the concurrence of the Publications Board;
c) Selection of competent reviewers, with the help of editorial board
members, for manuscripts and management of timely reviews of such manuscripts;
d) Direct editorial board members to seek special issue proposals and
manuscripts in specific areas;
e) Provision of a clear board focus
through promotion of personal vision and guidance where appropriate;
f)
Resolution of conflicts or problems as necessary.
Applicants should have
recognized expertise in the computer science and engineering community, possess
editorial experience, and be able to lead an active editorial board and to work
effectively with technical and publishing professionals. Applicants must have
clear employer support for this activity.
SEARCH PROCEDURE
Prospective candidates are requested to provide a condensed CV in
summary form and a vision statement describing the candidate's vision of the
future of TKDE by June 30, 1996. Following initial screening by the committee,
we will further request a letter of support from the candidate's employer and a
complete CV. Full materials are due July 31, 1996.
