The IEEE Computer Society is seeking applicants for the
position of Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of IEEE Multimedia for the publication years
1998 and 1999. The EIC is a two-year appointment by the President of the
Computer Society.
Publications are one of the most tangible services
provided to its members by the Computer Society. Therefore, EICs play a critical
role to the success of the Computer Society.
SCOPE OF IEEE Multimedia
IEEE Multimedia magazine contains technical information covering a broad
range of issues in multimedia systems and applications. The information consists
of articles, product reviews, new product descriptions, book reviews and
announcements of conferences and workshops.
QUALIFICATIONS AND
REQUIREMENTS OF CANDIDATES
Key qualities of the EIC are the possession
of a good understanding of industry, academic, and government needs, plus the
managerial skills to manage the editorial cycle in a timely fashion. Computer
Society is consolidating all manuscripts tracking process to its Los Alamitos
publications office. Therefore in the future new EICs will be able to
concentrate energy only content development and manuscripts solicitation. The
EIC must be able to attract respected experts to his/ her editorial board.
Major responsibilities of future EIC of IEEE Multimedia include:
a) Active solicitation of high quality manuscripts from potential
authors, and assistance of these authors (with the help of the IEEE-CS staff) in
getting their manuscripts published;
b) Identification and appointment
of editorial board members with the concurrence of the Publications Board;
c) Selection of competent reviewers, in cooperation with the IEEE-CS
publications staff and the Manuscripts Management System (MMS), to reach
conclusions and make decisions on manuscripts in a timely fashion.
d)
Direct editorial board members to seek special issue proposals and manuscripts
in specific areas;
e) Provision of a clear board focus through promotion
of personal vision and guidance where appropriate;
f) Resolution of
conflicts or problems as necessary.
Applicants should have recognized
expertise in the computer science and engineering community, possess editorial
experience, and be able to lead an active editorial board and to work
effectively with technical and publishing professionals. Applicants must have
clear employer support for this activity.
SEARCH PROCEDURE
Prospective candidates are requested to provide a complete CV, a vision
statement describing the candidate's vision of the future of IEEE Multimedia,
and a letter of support from the candidate's employer by April 20, 1997.
