Lutz to Deliver NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conference Lectures

From May 20 to 24, 2024, at the NSF-CBMS Regional Research Conference in Mathematical Sciences at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Professor Jack Lutz from Iowa State University's Computer Science department will deliver a series of ten lectures on Algorithmic Fractal Dimensions. He will be giving two lectures each day.

Jack Lutz to teach Quantum Information and Computation

The 2019 National Academies report, Quantum Computing: Progress and Prospects, states that quantum computing has the potential to "transcend current computational boundaries" and "transform our understanding of the universe."  Public and private investments in quantum information science are increasing dramatically, driving rapid progress on the hardware and software needed for this emerging technology.

Iowa Colloquium on Information, Complexity, and Logic (ICICL) 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6th

The central Iowa Colloquium on Information, Complexity, and Logic (ICICL), a collaboration of Iowa State University, Grinnell College, and Drake University, will hold its inaugural meeting this Thursday, October 6, at 2:00 p.m. in 2243 Noyce Science Center at Grinnell College.  Jack Lutz will speak on “Algorithmic Information, Plane Kakeya Sets, and Conditional Dimension”.

ICICL will meet roughly monthly, with the meeting site rotating among the three institutions.  The November 3 meeting will be at Drake University, with A. Pavan speaking, and the December 1 meeting will be at Iowa State University, with Chris Porter speaking.

Jack Lutz Receives Scott Hanna Faculty Fellowship

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will honor Jack Lutz, professor with the Department of Computer Science, with a reception on February 10th, from 11:30-12:30 in 302 Catt Hall. Lutz has been named as the recipient of the Scott Hanna Faculty Fellowship. Refreshments will be served.
