New “software bots,” programs specifically designed to view selected YouTube videos, will help political and computer scientists identify how well political campaigns can target individual voters.
Co-PI's Wallapak Tavanapong and Adisak Sukul, faculty with the Department of Computer Science, are part of the ISU interdisciplinary team which was awarded $529,776 from NSF to develop computer science tools to test the effectiveness of online campaign advertising. The research team also includes two faculty members from the Department of Political Science, David Peterson, and Olga Chyzh. Chyzh also has a split faculty assignment with the Department of Statistics.
The first Midwest Big Data Summer School for Early Career Researchers will be held from June 20-24, 2016 in Ames, Iowa. Spearheaded, by ISU Computer Science faculty, Dr. Hridesh Rajan, Pavankumar Aduri, and Adisak Sukul, this summer school is designed as a one week, intensive curriculum aimed at early career researchers to get them started in data-driven research.
