Software Engineering junior Katie Githens has been invited, with support offered, to attend and present at the 2011 International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE). Githens will present to the CTGDSD Workshop her experience with Computer Science 510X, a spring 2011 ISU course in distributed software development offered by Dr. David Weiss, the Lanh and Oanh Nguyen Chair in Software Engineering. "This is the kind of opportunity that is available for students of Software Engineering, and we are helping them to seek these opportunities" states Weiss, who will also attend and present his experience teaching 510X with collaborator Stuart Faulk . Githens looks forward to talking with the ICSE audience about the challenges she faced working with engineers from a different time zone, culture, and native language. Githens also looks forward to the opportunity to network with leaders in the field, other students, and researchers at other universities. "At the moment I am leaning towards graduate school," Githens says, "at ICSE I will be able to hear about the state of the art research going on in universities around the world. This will help me narrow down my particular area of study should I decide to apply to graduate schools."

ICSE is the premier software engineering conference, providing a forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences and concerns in the field of software engineering. The Department offers its congratulations to Katie!
