Research Statement - Dr. Zhang's current research is to explore the technologies and theories for building more efficient and secure wireless networks (with a focus on wireless sensor networks). To pursue this goal, he is working on: (1) designing new protocols for wireless networks to support more applications with higher efficiency and reliability; (2) investigating new cryptographic and non-cryptographic methodologies, and applying them in designing more efficient strategies and protocols for protecting wireless networks as well as the applications lying on top of them; (3) identifying the limitations of existing theories and techniques for specifying and verifying wireless network protocols, and exploring new approaches.
