15 Apr, 2009

Thanks to the sponsorships from Cerner Corporation and Maverick Software, the Computer Science Department at Iowa State University will be sending a team of three undergraduates to the 37th annual Association of Computing Machinery International Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) in Stockholm, Sweden on April 18, 19, and 20.

The team, consisting of Pasha Kazatsker, Michael Siebert, and Yuly Suvorov, are undergraduates in Computer Science. Their coach is Dr. Simanta Mitra, senior lecturer in the Computer Science department. ISU will be one of 100 colleges from around the world gathering at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm from April 19th -21st for programming competition.

The team was one of ten teams from Iowa State that traveled to the regional ACM competition in Lincoln, Nebraska earlier this fall. By placing second out of 220 teams competing at the Midwest regional, they earned a spot to compete in the international competition. Dr. Mitra, as coach, has had several ISU campus competitions since the fall victory to help prepare the team for the world championship.
