The Information Assurance Center (IAC) at Iowa State University has partnered with Mississippi State University and University of Kansas to form the Center for Information Protection (CIP), with the IAC at the helm.

The center is an initiative of the National Science Foundation's Industry/University Cooperative Research Center (I/UCRC) program whose goal is to create a strong working relationship between universities and industry. The CIP will provide opportunities for members of industry and universities to communicate with each other to discuss mutual research ideas and refine and strengthen security-related projects.

Professor Johnny Wong has received funding from the CIP for 2006 to conduct research on two such projects: the first is entitled "Specification-guided misuse and anomaly intrusion detection," mentored by the Boeing Company, and the second is "Intrusion detection in wireless ad hoc networks," mentored by Rockwell Collins.

The funding will support graduate research assistants Natalia Stakhanova and Xia Wang as they research and develop in these two areas.
