Test - Out Examinations

The next test - out examinations are scheduled as follows: (Please be prompt; the exams are timed.)

Test - out Policy (Credit By Examination or CBE)

  1. All students applying for Com S test-out should fill out an application in the main office.
  2. "[CBE] Examinations are usually given just prior to, or within two weeks of, the beginning of fall and spring semesters." ISU Bulletin, Undergrad and Grad Courses and Programs, p. 13.
  3. No Com S test-out will be given outside this period, except at the instructor's discretion and with notification to the Undergrad Committee.
  4. "Students may ordinarily attempt a CBE test only once in any course or area. Under special circumstances a re-test may be taken upon approval of the department in which the course is offered." ISU Bulletin, Undergrad and Grad Courses and Programs, p. 13.
  5. "Approval of the department" (above) shall mean "Approval of the Undergrad Committee" for all undergraduate students and Com S courses.
  6. "Students may be denied permission [to take a test-out] because
    1. the nature of the course is such that proficiency cannot be measured by such a test,
    2. the student does not appear to have adequate background to pass the examination for the course or
    3. the student would not otherwise be allowed to enroll in the course"

  7. Students may not test out (CBE) of a Com S course when grade or W appears on ISU transcript.

Test-out Procedures (billable) $100.00 -

Student must register for the test-out in 226 Atanasoff Hall at least one day prior to the exam. Once you sign up for the test, you will be billed no matter what occurs -- failure to take the test, failing the test or passing the test.

  1. Arrive several minutes before the scheduled exam time. These are timed tests -- no one will be admitted after the exam begins.
  2. Bring photo identification to present for admittance to the testing room.
  3. Please bring a sharpened #2 pencil with you. No dictionaries or calculators allowed.
  4. Each test may be taken only once.
  5. There are no sample or practice exams available. Any college text may be used to prepare for the tests.
