  • Computer Science Graduate Student Handbook
  • Speak-Teach Program -- Teaching Assistants are required to take the Speak-Teach oral proficiency testing and complete training if needed. Students must first register to take the examination. Computer Science will send the name of new TA's to SpeakTeach. These students are given priority in testing. They will not administer the test to students who will not become a TA.

  • Teaching Assistant Handbook -- This handbook is filled with useful information for ISU TA's. Hard copies may be picked up at the Speak-Teach Office, 1116 Pearson hall.

  • College Teaching Seminar -- Every Fall the Center for Teaching Excellence offers the College Teaching Seminar to all new Teaching Assistants.

    Research Assistantships

    A limited number of research assistantship positions may be awarded. These have been negotiated between the student and the professor who is providing the funding.

  • Transportation to Ames -- Students arriving in Iowa by air will arrive at the Des Moines Airport. A list of ground travel options from Des Moines to Ames is located at http://www.admissions.iastate.edu/visit/directions.php.

  • Transportation in Ames -- CyRide is the city bus system for Ames, Iowa (pop. 50,731). CyRide began as a city department in September, 1976, and through the cooperation of the City of Ames, Iowa State University, and the Government of the Student Body at Iowa State University, became the Ames Transit Agency in January, 1981. This unique venture between the three funding bodies earned an All-America City Award in 1983..

    International Students are required to check in with the International Student and Scholar office, 252 Memorial Union, immediately upon campus arrival (http://www.iastate.edu/~internat_info/). They are located at Here.

    Pre-arrival information can be found at (http://www.iastate.edu/~internat_info/Pre_Arrival/). This is updated regularly and contains information regarding orientation sessions, student health, obtaining an ISU card, and other detailed information to expedite your first days here. Once you have completed this process, please come and check in with the department.

    English Placement Test

    This test is for non-native English speakers who DO NOT have a prior Bachelor's or Master's or PhD degree from a U.S. college or university.
