May 10 - The scores for everything and letter grades have been posted under the scores link.

May 3 - The scores for everything up to HW 3 have been posted under the scores link. Other scores will be posted as soon as we have them graded.

Apr. 30 - The example programs for networking and the TicTacToe program we developed as an in-class exercise have been posted under the lectures link.

Apr. 28 - Because Adeel will be missing his office hours later this week, Ms. Freeman will have extra office hours from 1:30-3:00pm on Thursday and from 2:00-4:30pm on Friday, to help you with HW5 or to answer questions before the final.

Apr. 27 - The final will be Monday from 12-1pm. You may have a one-page (both sides) cheat sheet to use during the final. The topics for the final are:

• Lists and other data structures - linked lists, list iterators, stacks and queues, sets and maps, hashing, trees and hash tables
• Inheritance - extending a class, super/subclasses and inheritance hierarchies, public/private/protected access specifiers, overriden vs. inherited methods/fields, superclass references to subclass objects, inheritance and construtors, abstract classes/methods
• Exceptions - throw statement/throws specifier, try/catch blocks, making your own exceptions
• File processing - input/output streams vs. input/output readers, file readers/writers, buffered readers/print writers, readLine() and println()
• GUIs - frames/content panes and panels, layout methods, paintComponent() and graphics draw() methods, GUI components (buttons, labels, text fields, check boxes/radio buttons), event-listeners (ActionListener, MouseAdapter) and inner classes
• Network programming - TCP/IP and sockets, input/output to socket

Apr. 23 - HW5 has been posted. (Last one!) It is due Apr. 30.

Apr. 16 - Our incomplete TicTacToe program from today's lecture has been posted under the Lecture Notes link. Since we didn't get it working, rethink how to approach the problem and we'll start fresh on Monday.

Apr. 14 - The second version of the example program for GUI components and the example program for menus and dialog boxes have been posted under the Lecture Notes link.

Apr. 12 - Lecture is cancelled today, as Ms. Freeman is ill.

Apr. 9 - The example program for graphical layout management and the first version of the example program for GUI components have been posted under the Lecture Notes link.

Apr. 6 - The example programs for basic graphical programming and the example programs for basic event-driven programming have been posted under the Lecture Notes link.

Mar. 31 - HW4 has been posted. It is due Apr. 6.

Mar. 31 - The example programs for error handling have been posted under the Lectures link.

Mar. 31 - Ms. Freeman's office hours are moved from 2-3pm to 3:30-4:30pm today.

Mar. 30 - As we discussed in class on Monday, we will have to change the syllabus and drop the semester-long project. The new weighting for scores will be 50% HWs, 20% midterm, 20% final, 10% in-class exercises.

Mar. 3 - Homework 3 has been posted. It is due 3/9. Also, the MergeSorter code has been posted under the Lectures link.

Mar. 1 - Remember, the midterm is this Friday in class. Topics for the midterm:

• Java vs. C++ syntax - variables/primitives/objects, I/O, arithemetic/comparison/relational operators, control structures (if, if/else, loops), methods
• Java classes - object-oriented programming vs. structured programming, designing classes, instance or object variables, writing object methods, constructors, methods from the generic Object class (equals, toString), documenting classes with javadoc, testing classes
• Interfaces - putting common methods into an interface, writing a class to implement an interface, writing generic code that works on objects supporting an interface, the Comparable/Comparator interfaces
• Arrays - arrays and array references, arrays of primitives vs. arrays of object references, creating the array at run-time, array.length, Java's array utilities (arrayCopy, equals, fill, sort, binarySearch), the ArrayList class and resizing arrays
• Recursion - identifying recursive solutions, base cases and recursive steps, tracing the execution of recursive functions
• Searching and Sorting - the big-O system for analyzing the running time of algorithms, sequential and binary search, bubble sort, insertion sort, merge sort

Feb. 26 - Ms. Freeman's office hours are moved from 10-11 to 10:30-11:30 today.

Feb. 20 - The Palindrome program shown in lecture today has been posted under the Lectures link.

Feb. 13 - Homework 2 has been posted under the Homeworks link. It is due Friday, Feb. 20.

Feb. 6 - Lecture is cancelled again today.

Feb. 4 - Lecture is cancelled today, since Ms. Freeman is ill.

Feb. 2 - Ms. Freeman's office hours tommorrow have been moved from 9-10 to 1-2, due to a doctor's appointment.

Jan. 29 - The TempConvert.java program we developed as a in-class exercise on Monday has been posted under the Lecture Notes link. Also, the Task class we developed on Wednesday has been posted; we will be building on this class in future lectures.

Jan. 27 - Thanks to Jason Pak for noticing a typo on Homework 1. 1 inch = 2.54 cm, not 2.45 cm as originally stated. Make sure you correct your math formulas in your HW1.

Jan. 26 - Homework 1 has been posted under the Homeworks link. It is due Monday, Feb. 2.
