Jacob Elsberry Graduates with Distinction Spring'06

Jacob Elsberry graduated with distinction with a degree in Computer Science on Saturday, May 6, 2006. To earn that recognition, students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 of all courses taken at Iowa State University.

Originally from Marshalltown, Iowa, he was a peer mentor his senior year to first-semester freshmen in the major. In addition to those responsibilities, he also pursued a minor in psychology and took college-level classes at Marshalltown Community College while still in high school.

Getting a 4.00 in each of the 12 credits taken (including Com S 342-Programming Languages) during the last semester is a Herculean feat for any student, but it is astounding when you realize that Jacob has been blind since birth.

In the summer of 2005, Jacob completed a software engineering internship with Lockheed-Martin in Orlando, Florida. He was offered full-time employment in the company before his last semester started and will begin his full-time position in early June.
