Overview

The undergraduate program in Computer Science is designed to prepare students for a career in the industry or advanced graduate study in Computer and Information Sciences or related areas. Required courses provide a strong foundation in the fundamentals of computing, algorithms, programming, languages, databases, computer systems, and software engineering. Electives provide an opportunity for students to explore advanced topics in several areas including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Neural Computation, Robotics, Software Engineeering, Databases, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Networks, Information Systems, and related areas. The existence of strong research programs in Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Computational Complexity, Databases, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Programming Languages, Multimedia Systems, Networks, Robotics, Software Systems, Software Engineering, and Theory of Computation provides unique opportunities for bright undergraduate students to participate in leading edge research in Computer Science.

Degree Requirements

Minor in Computer Science

To minor in computer science, under the 2009-2011 catalog, a student must have

  • Com S 227 (Java) no prerequisite ----------------------------------------------------------------------4
  • Com S 228 (Java) prerequisite - Com S 227 and credit or enrollment in Math 165 -------3
  • Com S 229 prerequisite - Com S 228 plus credit or enrollment in Math 166 ---------------3
  • Three courses 300-level or higher in Computer Science courses-----------------------------9

Total------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------19 credits

The minimum grade required in all courses taken in the minor is a C-,
with 6 credits of the 300 or above level courses being a C or better.
